Closing Your Stage Africa Account
Your Stage Africa account is how you sign in to this website, our forum and our apps, so closing it ends your sign-in to all of them. Closing it takes your own sign-in, or an e-mail from the address on your account:
- When you are signed in, use Close Account under Sign-In and Security on your account page. This page takes you there.
- When you are not signed in, sign in first, and you come back to this page. If you cannot sign in, Reset Your Password on the sign-in page sends a sign-in link to the address on your account. Once it signs you in, use Close Account.
- Write to privacy@stage.africa from the address on your account. We write back to that address to check that the request is yours, and close your account when you answer. Tell us whether your name stays on your forum posts. If you do not say, it stays.
Close Account asks whether your name stays on what you wrote on our forum, and sends a link to the address on your account. Your account closes when you open the link and press Close My Account. The link works for one day. Closing deletes your account at once, and it cannot be undone. If you pay for Pro or Ultra, closing cancels it and nothing more is taken, and for a year we refund the whole months you have not used. If PayFast will not stop a monthly plan when we ask it to, we do not close the account, because an account deleted while a card is still being charged is the worse fault. We tell you so when it happens, and if you write to privacy@stage.africa we stop the plan ourselves and close the account.
Some things stay after you close your account. These are the ones that keep something of you, and our privacy notice lists every record we keep and how long it stays, under How Long We Keep It, including the messages you sent us, the forum's own logs and drafts, and our working copies of the site:
- What you wrote on our forum, which stays in its thread. So does the forum's copy of your account, which leaves every group and sends you no more e-mail. If you take your name off, the forum renames it and clears your e-mail address, your forum profile and the internet addresses it holds. If you keep your name, it keeps all of those, and anybody can still read your forum profile.
- The forum's record of what you read.
- A profile you look after with somebody else, which stays up for them without your pictures, and an entry in our directory that we compiled.
- A picture of yours we already used in an article or an issue we published, and one you attached to a forum post or a chat message.
- Your other pictures, which we keep for thirty days where only we can reach them, and then delete.
- Our record of what you said about each picture, with the date and your name.
- A claim you made to an entry, which we keep after it is withdrawn.
- What you contributed to an app's shared record, such as a vote in the Partner Dance Style Identifier, which stays without your name, linked to your other votes under a number that our record of the closing connects to your account for three years.
- The record that you gave us a permission, or took one back, such as letting us telephone you, which we keep without an end so that we can show what we were allowed to do and from when. The telephone number itself is deleted when you close your account, and so is what you told us about your dancing under About You.
- The record of each payment you made us, which we keep for five years as a tax record.
- A short record of the closing with no name and no address in it, kept for three years.
- The site's own logs, which note the closing with your account's name and e-mail address.
- Copies in our backups, for up to about two weeks.
- Either of our mailing lists, if you are on it, until you leave that list.
