GlissadeApp

Glissade App

Learn and practise the terms of ballet, offline.

  • The app's home screen: the Glissade mark, the name and Your Ballet Term Tutor, above the four tabs Learn, Browse, Practice and You.
  • The Learn tab, with Your Next Lesson, The Body, five terms in three minutes, and a Begin button above All Lessons.
  • A lesson, The Five Positions of the Feet, at Level 1, opening with why every step is described in terms of them.
  • A practice card, one of eight, asking for the position described as heels together, toes turned out to the sides, with a Reveal button.
  • The Browse tab: 128 terms in the catalogue, a Random Term button, a search box, Favourites Only, and the list from à la seconde.
  • The term plié: the buttons Clara and Franz to hear it, its respelling plee-AY, its literal meaning, bent, and its definition.

The Glissade app teaches the terms of ballet a few at a time and brings each one back to practise before you would forget it.

Your lessons, your practice and your favourites are kept on your phone, and Glissade sends them nowhere. The app works without a connection once it is installed.

Glissade asks for no account and no permission, shows no advertisements and costs nothing. It is written for ages 13 and over.

You can use Glissade in your browser too, on a phone or a computer, and add it to your phone's home screen. The Android app is coming to Google Play.

How Glissade Works, under the app's information button, says how the lessons, the practice and the ratings fit together. A question or a fault goes to the forum's Glissade App category, or to info@stage.africa.

What It Does

  • 128 terms, from plié to entrechat six, each with its meaning, what the words say literally where they are French or Italian, and how to say it.
  • Thirty-three short lessons, from the positions and the parts of the body to the named steps. A lesson teaches a few terms and then drills you on them.
  • Practice that brings a term back when it is due, sooner if you found it hard and later if you knew it.
  • Two voices, Clara and Franz, to hear each term said. Both are made with text-to-speech.
  • If you learn with the RAD or DASA, choose your school under You. Where your school teaches a term its own way, Glissade tells you how.
  • Browse lists every term from A to Z, and you can search by a term or by its meaning.
  • Works without a connection once it is installed.
