Partner Dance Style Identifier

Listens to a song and says which partner dances suit it.

  • The Identifier's answer for Sway by Dean Martin: Rumba first at 89 per cent, then Bachata and Bolero, with the votes cast for Rumba.
  • A playlist read by the Identifier, each track with the dance that suits it best.
  • The same answer for Sway in the dark scheme.

Hold your phone up while a song plays. The Identifier names the song and ranks the partner dances that suit it, each with how sure the dancers who voted on it are.

Every answer comes from people who dance. You vote on how well each dance fits a song, and a voter whose answers agree with songs we already know counts for more.

Searching for a song needs no account. Listening, reading a playlist and voting need your Stage Africa account, the same one the website and the forum use.

Test It on Android

The Identifier is in testing on Google Play for Android. To test it, join the testers' group with the Google account on your Android phone, then open the testing link on the phone, accept, and install the app from Google Play:

Tell us what goes wrong, or what you would change, in the forum's call to test.

What It Does

  • Finds a song by its name and shows the dances the community says suit it.
  • Names the song as it plays, from the phone's microphone.
  • Ranks the partner dances that suit it, each with the share of dancers who agree.
  • Takes your vote on each dance: Perfect, Can Do, In a Pinch or No.
  • Takes a dance the list is missing, and holds it as provisional until a curator or a trusted tagger confirms it.
  • Reads a whole playlist from its link and shows how every track dances.
  • Keeps no recording of what it hears.
