What You Give Us When You Vote
These terms are between you and Burtronix CC, trading as Stage Africa, and they apply to what you contribute to the Partner Dance Style Identifier, in the app or on its tagging page. They add to Stage Africa's terms of use, which still apply to everything else you do with your account. You accept them the first time you vote.
What you contribute is:
- your votes on how well each dance suits a track;
- your ratings of a track for social dancing, performance and practice, and the level you think it suits;
- the name of a dance you add because the list is missing it.
Each of these goes into a shared record of which dances suit which music, and everybody's answer is worked out from everybody's contributions.
You keep whatever rights you have in what you contribute. You give Burtronix permission to use it, to publish it, to combine it with other people's, and to let others do the same, under an open licence such as Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 or under any other terms we choose. That permission is not exclusive, it has no charge, it applies everywhere, and you cannot take it back. We have not decided to publish the record for anyone to use. If we do, it will carry nothing that identifies you.
You must contribute only your own judgement. You must not vote from somebody else's account, copy another source's answers into the record, or vote to push a result rather than to say what you think.
How Much Your Vote Counts
Not every vote counts the same. From your first vote we measure how often yours agree with tracks whose answer we already know, which we keep hidden, and then with what everybody else says. That measure decides how much weight your votes carry in the answer, and it changes as you vote.
Weight comes only from that measure, and nobody can pay for it. A member whose votes agree well and often may be given a badge, and we show it only if they agree to it.
We may pay somebody to tag a style no member covers yet. A paid tagger uses the same tagging page as everybody else, and their votes earn their weight by the same measure as yours.
Does a Computer Vote?
No. Every vote in the record is a person's. We use computer models of our own to study which dances suit which music, and to check the record against tracks whose answer we already know, and nothing they produce goes into the record. If that ever changes, these terms say so first.
A Dance You Add
If the list is missing a dance, you can add it by name. It is provisional until one of our curators, or a member whose votes have earned our trust, confirms it. Until then other members can vote on it, and a curator may merge it with a dance already on the list, rename it, or remove it.
The name of a dance is the only thing you can type that other people see, so use it for the name of a dance and nothing else.
What Happens When You Leave
When you close your Stage Africa account, your name comes off your votes, ratings and added dances, and they stay in the record. They stay linked to one another under a number, so that the weight your votes earned stays with them, and for three years our record of the closing can still connect that number to your account.
We do not take a contribution out of the record because an account closed, since other people's answers were worked out from it. If you object to our keeping yours, for a reason that applies to you, or you think one of yours is wrong, write to privacy@stage.africa, and we will consider it as the law requires.
